Triste match à la Britannique. Les Anglais aiment bien remettre une balle haute en retrait comme sur la "main de Dieu" de Maradona. Résultat but pour la République d'Irlande, cette fois-ci de la tête. Sinon rien à se mettre sous la dent sauf une Angleterre bien décevante et un très bon Bonner qui sauve son équipe durant les arrêts de jeu. Même l'ambiance n'était pas au rendez-vous...

Irlanda conseguiu segurar a poderosa e sempre amarelona Inglaterra. Bem verdade que os ingleses amassaram no 2º tempo.
A Irlanda achou um gol no começo do jogo e ficou atrás, criando poucas chances de perigo aos ingleses. O ataque inglês no primeiro tempo não conseguiu vencer a defesa irlandesa, mas no segundo tempo as chances apareceram. Nos últimos 20 minutos foi um bombardeio inglês, Pat Bonner foi o grande destaque, com defesas importantíssimas, inclusive a do último lance do jogo.
A Irlanda cansou no segundo tempo, nitidamente, mas se saiu muito bem contra um time que tecnicamente era superior. Não era o dia do Lineker, perdeu vários gols.
